Foods to Help Accelerate Metabolism

If you've ever tried to lose weight before and have felt like nothing has worked for you, chances are you end up feeling frustration and loss of hope. There are tons of fad diets out there, each one promising quick results with minimal or no exercise required. The fact of the matter is, along with a balanced diet, exercise is necessary in order to see some kind of results. Fortunately, diet does play a larger role in weight loss and maintenance and there are special foods out there that will help boost metabolism to help speed results up. Below is a list of some of my favorite foods and spices I have found have helped me maintain a good weight and lean body.

 Oatmeal

If you would like to jumpstart your metabolism, a great way to do so is by starting your mornings off with a nice bowl of oatmeal. Widely known as a "super food," oatmeal is loaded with soluble fiber, which helps you feel satisfied for a long period of time because it requires a large calorie burn in order to break down. You will feel full longer, this controlling your appetite throughout the day.

 Pineapple
Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain, which aids digestion by breaking down protein. This in turn leads to a healthy digestion, which is essential in order to regulate and maintain your metabolism. Pictured above is a mini pineapple, which serves as a full serving and tastes just as delicious as a standard sized pineapple.

Cinnamon

Because cinnamon requires more effort from your body to metabolize, it aids your metabolism and speeds it up, similar to the effect hot peppers and spices have on your body. Cinnamon also alters your carbohydrate metabolism, so that your body does not store extra carbs as excess fat. I love adding a scoop of cinnamon to my morning oatmeal, banana protein shakes, to name a few. It adds a delicious touch to many foods so it's easy to incorporate.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a spice derived from the curcuma longa plant and is typically yellow-red in color. The spice can be added to many foods such as meat stews, curries and more. Turmeric aids digestion by stimulating the gallbladder, aiding in the release of bile. This in turn helps the body break down and digest food. Turmeric has also been shown to help with inflammation and aid in the release of gas.

 Cayenne Pepper

Spicy foods are known to aid and boost metabolism by raising the body temperature, thus aiding in the burning of calories. Cayenne pepper is just one of the many hot spices you can add to your foods to aid in digestion and calorie burning. This is one of the more popular spices and is versatile enough to be added to many different dishes such as meats, soups, stews and much more.

These are just but a few of my favorite foods that have helped me maintain a fast and healthy metabolism. There are countless healthy and tasty options out there that will help kickstart your journey towards a healthy lifestyle. It just requires a little research and creativity on your part. Hopefully you have gathered some insight and will incorporate these foods and spices into your diet as part of a metabolism boosting regimen!
