Chia Seeds: Full of Goodness
Chia seeds have become wildly popular in the health food community as of lately. Deemed as a "superfood," these seeds are nutrient dense and can be incorporated into your diet in a variety of ways. From adding them to baked goods, to blended smoothies, and even making a chia pudding, these little seeds are not only nutritional, but versatile as well.
Originally from Mexico, chia seeds were once valued for these nutrients and even used as currency. The word "chia" means strength in the Mayan language, and it is believed that Aztec warriors ate the seeds in order to gain strength and endurance that would last them the whole day. Whether that is true or not, the fact is chia seeds are extremely nutritional and easy to add to any diet.
A one ounce serving of chia seeds ranges at around 135 calories and is loaded with protein, healthy fatty acids, vitamins A, B, E, and D, and are full of antioxidants as well. Some benefits chia seeds have include digestive health, cardiac health, boosting energy and metabolism, bone health, and more.
As mentioned before, chia seeds are versatile and you can easily add them to your diet in a multitude of ways. Next time you're at the grocery store, take a look at the health foods section and check these little nutrient dense seeds out.
